Hackintosh
I've always been pretty ambivalent about the pricing of Apple's hardware -- there's a certain premium you should expect to pay for custom-designed, high quality materials -- but lately, I've been rather annoyed about their ignoring two market niches. Those niches are the netbook market and the mid-range desktop machine (that's not an all-in-one like the iMac).
The plan is for two machines. The first will be an HP Mini 1000, and the second will be a well-equipped desktop powered by a Core 2 Quad at 3.0 GHz. The price for both of these machines together still comes out to less than a well-equipped iMac. Thus: worth the hassle of getting the OS onto them.
Once I have the hardware, I'll post notes on specs, how I accomplished the tasks, and the resources I used to build my Hackintosh boxes.
