Detoxifying

So one of the things that I’ve always had problems with is eating healthy meals. I have a horrible, horrible sweet tooth and to make matters worse, I’m addicted to caffeine. This is compounded by a job that frequently sees me hitting up the vending machines for a “quick lunch” to get me through the day while I work at my desk. Ultimately, this is really bad for me. Since starting at my current employer, I’ve packed on 15 pounds, and that’s not cool.

I decided recently, that I want to clear out my system a bit, so I’m taking two weeks, starting this Sunday, during which I will be completely avoiding the following:

  • caffeine
  • alcohol
  • refined sugars (especially high-fructose corn syrup)
  • fried foods

No, I don’t intend to actually starve myself, or anything like that. But I do intend to do this for two weeks and see how I feel at the end of it. If it goes well, I’ll go through the rest of June, and probably keep going after that. Because I really need to.

  1. I already avoid all of these except caffeine. Seriously, if I didn’t have caffeine in the morning (and only once in the morning), I would never be able to get over the fatigue I always have. I’m hoping that once I start more pain management work, I can cut down on that.

    As for the rest, alcohol’s OK in moderation, but you should probably be avoiding fried food in the first place and there has NEVER been a good reason to consume high fructose corn syrup.
