Christmas Eve
I'm still not done shopping and there's a mountain of snow out there. Yesterday, I was so overwhelmed with the scrum and the hostility and the lines that I called it done around 6pm and headed home, where I sat on the couch with Kate and watched TV and ate a frozen pizza.
Today, I'll be cleaning house for a couple hours and then heading back out to face the Slobbering Hordes of Consumerism™. I can't help but think of Jules Winnfield, when he said, "We should have shotguns for this kind of deal."
Tonight, we brave the roads to go to my parents' place, which is fortunately only about 20 miles away. Tomorrow, we brave the roads to drive up to Cloquet (130+ miles). Fortunately, we don't come back until Sunday morning. Unfortunately, it's supposed to keep snowing through Sunday.
Sunday night, Christmas at my mom's place.
Slowing Down for a Minute or Two
The past couple weeks have been crazy. Crazy, I tell you. Work has been a poopstorm, and home has been pretty exhausting, too. The good news is, these last couple weeks should go fairly smoothly. And then 2010 begins.
So what's been going on besides the end-of-year rushes in home and work life? Well, all sorts of stuff, I suppose. Getting into the training for the next road/cyclocross season, of course. Framebuilding class is plugging right along, and that's a f'n blast.
Today is my only complete day off in the last two weeks, so I'm taking advantage of it -- I've got a to-do list as long as my arm, and I made sure to mix common household tasks with personal stuff (like this blog post), which should make it a fairly good day.
Kate's off at the swim school, shadowing another instructor (Kate's been away for awhile now), getting ready to start back up with that part-time gig in January. And I'm trying to decide what to do next. Probably start a load of laundry and then take out the trash.
Hope you're all doing well and that work/home/holidays combo isn't kicking your asses the way it's been knocking mine around.
Christmas Wishlist
Here's my Christmas Wishlist:
- Settlers of Catan (boardgame)
- a Penn Cycle gift card
- It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - Season 4, DVD
- a Sparkfun gift card
- The Paterek Manual
That's if you're considering material things. Mostly, I'd be happy with a quiet morning curled up on the couch with Kate, drinking hot chocolate and watching it snow.
Long Weekend Recap
So it was a pretty eventful weekend. However, I'm not really inclined to write out a whole multi-page description of what happened, so you're going to have to settle for bullet points.
• Awesome Thanksgiving meals with my future in-laws, and our friends Allie and Pete.
• Board games! Variety, but most memorable: Cranium. Kate and I make a seriously awesome team.
• Call of Duty: World at War. Is it possible to get PTSD from a video game?
• Free weight racks/set/etc. courtesy of @smithersmpls.
• Framebuilding class. Joined a headtube to a downtube and cold-set it. Then made some track dropouts by hand for a near-future project (track bike).

Handmade track dropouts. Design based off of Shimano's.
• The Vikings beat the crap out of the Bears. Too awesome! Wish AP would stop fumbling. Think Sidney Rice might well be the next Cris Carter.
• Did not shop on Black Friday or Cyber Monday (so far). In fact my only material acquisitions during that that timespan are the dropouts I made and the weight set (free).
