I am hereby coining the term “the Yorke Conjecture” which postulates that no public discussion of music will go more than 5 minutes without someone bringing up Radiohead. (Not because Radiohead is awesome, mind you. No, it’s because Radiohead fans are worse than Apple fanboys when it comes to vocal smugness.)
Okay, I need some recommendations for new music to buy/download and spin. Lately, I’m really digging Mumford & Sons and Cloud Cult. Historically I like everything from classic (70s/80s) hard rock, metal, old-school rap, some country (Brooks, Cash, Nelson), grunge, post-grunge, punk, pop-punk, the blues (acoustic, delta mostly), some folk (Dylan, Guthrie, Davis), and so [...]
So hi there, Internets. It’s hump day today, and despite my cat-related exhaustion, I’m in a damn good mood, and there are reasons for it. Reason the first: found a new musical artist that just fucking floored me this morning, just before work. Take a little Marvin Gaye and Sam Cooke, add some James Brown, [...]
Here’s the media I’ve digested in 2010.1 I’ll save my commentary for the end of the post. I’d like to propose the membership of a new supergroup: Vocals: Eddie Vedder Lead Guitar: Slash Rhythm Guitar: Bono Bass: Flea Drums: Ringo Starr Seriously. Bet these guys could create pop-rock that would obliterate the awesome stuff the Foo Fighters have done. The big question, though is: what name could we give them?
Warm-Up Phase: “This Language” – Stateless “Whispering Wind” – Moby Work Phase: “UNKLE Reconstruction” – Michael Giacchino & UNKLE “Five Four” – The Gorillaz “Weapons of Mass Distortion” – The Crystal Method “Genetic Blueprint” – Fear Factory “Somewhere I Belong” – Linkin Park “One Man Army” – The Prodigy and Tom Morello “Ladies and Gentlemen” [...]
So I haven’t anything particular to post about here, so I’m going to break it down into some bullet points and let you wander all over the map with me: Every so often, I have one of those moments where I ask myself, “What the fuck is wrong with me?” In this case, it would [...]
