Birthday Addendum
So I got home from the office last night and had a kick ass round of Battlefield 1943 while I waited for Kate to arrive. She got home just as I was finishing with the highest score of the round. Stoked.
I got my gift, which was Beatles Rock Band (awesome!), and then we went out to dinner. After dinner, it was a viewing of Avatar, which is flat-out the most visually stunning, well-realized alien world/culture I've ever seen on the big screen. Walked out of the theater completely floored at the quality of the movie.
All in all, an excellent evening.
Career Option
Back in the day, after Dot-Com Bubble 1.0 burst and left me living in my parents' basement, I went through a period of despair while looking for jobs and started to consider alternate lines of work. I would list things like "helicopter pilot (army)" and then list the pros and cons. As desperation set in, the list became more and more outlandish. After viewing the following video, I cannot believe I never considered the option of "Official Team Mascot", because this shit is hilarious:

I never thought I'd see the day when a TV commercial made me happy, but every time I see the Discovery Channel "whole world" spot, I find myself smiling and humming along...so I'm reproducing it here...and then following it up with a link to today's xkcd (which is, by far, the best webcomic out there).

Thoughts on Videoblogging
Videoblogging is hard. Okay, really, it's not that difficult -- it's just more labor-intensive than normal blogging.
I've got a basic script for the first videoblog post, and tonight I do my primary shoot. Post-production may take a little longer, but I have the still imagery put together, so at least that's out of the way.
I've started working with GarageBand in a way that's meaningful, instead of just noodling around, and have an interesting techno track that's forming up. Good beat, mixed with strings, piano, synth, and some ambient noise. Going to work in some more elements tonight. I'm really pleased with how it's coming along and it should work with the script nicely.
Right now, the plan is to start assembling a collection of techno-esque tracks to use in these video pieces. Eventually, I'll be releasing them as free downloads under the Creative Commons.
